Alright, it’s day 2 of Scott Pilgrim week, so that means another review is ready to go!  Read on, if you dare…

Scott Pilgrim & The Infinite Sadness (Volume 3)

Oni Press, $11.99

Bryan Lee O’Malley

Well, it kind of kicks into high gear here.  The last page of volume 2 is a reveal that Scott’s ex Envy Adams, and Ramona’s 3rd evil ex play in the same band, The Clash at Demonhead, who also happen to be Knives’ favorite band.  There’s another noticeable change in the quality of the art in this book, and all in all the story just keeps getting better the more involved it gets.  O’Malley really has you feeling for Knives early on in the book, as her mouth gets her into an embarrassing situation, something I’m sure all of use have been through, although it’s safe to say that none of us have ever had the highlights punched out of our hair.

One of my favorite things about this book is the ex that Scott has to fight.  Todd is a vegan.  In the Pilgrim-verse, vegans have special powers.  I think it’s pretty funny that vegans have academies, can fly and punch craters into the moon, and get special hair, just like Super Saiyans.  This book als gives us a lot more back story.  Stuff from Ramona’s past, stuff featuring Envy and Scott, and stuff from Todd, featuring both Ramona and Envy.  It’s nice to see that all the characters have well-defined arcs that they go through, and it seems like all of it was part of O’Malley’s plan from the start.  The threads can actually be seen all the way back in the first book, when Scott talks about his last girlfriend.  So, if you’ve read this far, you certainly can’t miss volume 3.

Volstagg’s Beard 4/5

And that’s it for today, I hope you enjoyed it, and be sure to come back tomorrow, for Volume 4!
